Writing and Research Services

Have questions? Wondering why you would want an writer or researcher? Check out the Writing and Research FAQ!
THE BASICS
Although my speciality is plain language and health research writing, I am willing and happy to take on any writing project. This includes reports, corporate histories or other documents involving a combination of research and writing.

Much of my writing work is actually rewriting, meaning I take existing text and rework it, often as part of a substantive edit (see Editing Services) or plain language overhaul.

Alternatively, I can provide research services, locating documents and photographs for you using my access to university databases and Library and Archives Canada. I can also produce a bibliography in any style.
THE PROCESS

After you contact me, we make time to discuss (either by phone or Skype, or in person) the sort of document that you need. The important thing here is not only to establish deadlines, but also to narrow down the format, genre, themes and messaging of the project. I want to give you the sort of document that you need or want, but to do that, we need to start with an in-depth conversation about your goals.

After that, I get to work! Depending on the length and complexity of the work, I can submit sections as I write them or simply save everything until the end.
DO YOU EDIT YOUR OWN WRITING?

Generally, no. That does not mean it won't need editing, simply that I am too close to the text to see all of its flaws. I am happy to work with the editor (and I can recommend several for you, should that be necessary) on the drafts. As far as authors go, I think that I am pretty relaxed and pleasant!
COLLABORATION

While we all know the stereotypes of the solitary author, that isn't always the case. In fact, more often than not, authors have to collaborate with a number of other people, from editors and layout teams, to other authors and clients. I have collaborated with people in the past and am happy to do so in the future.

Take a look at the Testimonials page for some of the things people have said about working with me.
DO YOU WRITE ACADEMIC ESSAYS OR PAPERS?

Absolutely not. I am happy to edit dissertations or articles intended for publication, but that is all—there are simply too much potential for academic dishonesty in other projects.
